Dreaming about how to become a makeup artist?  This isn’t shocking. Get paid for spending the whole day dreaming about fashion patterns, experimenting with different looks and collaborating with great customers is the real dream career to be a maquila maker. How exactly are you going to the whole pro? Lipstick Junkie We’ve asked on industry insiders to help us out precisely where to make changes and come closer to my targets.

FEMI OLATAYO worked with T.E.I. COLLECTION,for 20 years. He traveled around the globe as a leading artist for the label and found emerging patterns from Lagos to china to America. There is then Rose Johnson, a social worker who has become a name for herself working with model, famous artists and photographers of the great time. Over her 25 years in the beauty sector, she has developed techniques for educators and a curriculum for stephton, as used by Make Up For Ever.

Aspiring artists, put down that brush and take note. These experts were kind enough to share some valuable career advice. starting with ..

practice every day

We just know it’s great training. Your mates or you try different things, the more you do them, the happier you will be. “It is vital that you study from professionals to be a great artist, but it’s also important to make training a part of your everyday life.

John provides practical experience by serving in the community center or beauty store at a make-up counter. “A door of personalities, skin types, ages, you’ll find there, you’ll call it,” he says. “The makeup products are the best places to observe the customer service while people are looking for cosmetic help. The customer service is an important element in make-up companies.

2: Study from the masters.

Take the time to find out what kind of looks you’re aiming at and what the makeup artist role models are. “Research who’s come before you,” Rose says, “and understand what you like about their work. Figure out which styles you’re most attracted to.” You can start by looking at books, magazines, websites, beauty vlogs, and celebrity images.

3: Get a good education

If you’re serious about becoming a professional makeup artist, going to school is a great option to consider. There are lots of various programs across the country— do your homework and find out which is right for you. Another such college is the Make Up For Ever Academy in New York, which, according to Simone, includes just about everything: “They provide a comprehensive course in four levels: makeup, style, TV and film, and stage and creative. It’s a six-month program that provides training after completion. The Academy also has intense courses which vary from another to seven days.” Another route is to obtain an associate of arts degree in cosmetology from a local community college. Whether you head to traditional college or beauty school, they’ll help you prepare for whatever licensing exams and requirements your state has (find out what your state requires).

4: Go online and sell yourself.

Thanks to the internet, the makeup world has changed drastically: If you want to be popular, you have to have a web presence. “Social media has been very prominent on maquillage,” says John. “Think of all the experiences you have on YouTube or Snap chat! What makes this great is that there’s a completely other way of feeling thoughts,” says Simone. “The more you share your job, and the more accessible you’ll be to others the faster you develop,” says Simone.

Katey saw how critical it can be for your career first-hand. “Not until my then lawyer sent me a serious chat, I accepted it,” she notes. “I started my site soon afterwards and I found a piece about Vogue.com on my favorite products. It was then that I knew that it is important to make your way into a company in this industry and make a regular appearance in the social media world.”

5: Don’t overdo the fangirling regardless of what.

The ultimate goal is work for stars for many who want to be a professional make-up artist. Katey points out that you must remain professional if you’re lucky enough to score a celebrity consumer. “Do not try to make best friends of someone you saw in films, mind that you are there to do a task, not attempt,” she says. “As intimacy progresses, it is important to insure that your clients are in the best state of mind. This often means knowing intuitively when it is time for discussion and when it is safe for them to remain still and have their emotions, television and music resolved.”

6: Take that job and take the best attitude imaginable.

As you get on the road, take any job, even if it doesn’t pay, you will build experience. “You never know who you will encounter and where this person will end up next. Just handle others like you want to be handled,” says Katey. “So, you will never be a position that is too low.

7:  Love your work. Love your work.

Never lose your love of makeup and art, which led you to first of all become a makeup artist! “Enthusiasm is vital! I’m still with M.A.C. eighteen years later and my enthusiasm is as powerful as my first day, and it inspire me to be different and to express myself by making up,” John says.

8: Wear flats.

It takes long days to work as a makeup artist. It’s a simple tip, but an important one: “Never wear high heels to work,” says Simone.

9: Search for a mentor.

See if you can connect to a maquilador who lets you mark their work. If you can be your assistant or an intern, better still! It is invaluable to have a mentor who can show you the clothes when you begin. “Therefore, one day, redeem it,” Simone says.

With these simple steps, your dream will be actualized.
